Protect Your Investment: How To Care For Your Aluminum Ute Canopy

Blog

If you've invested in a ute and you want to get the most out of your investment, don't forget about the canopy. An aluminium ute canopy will help you get more use out of your investment. However, you do need to take steps to protect your investment. If cared for properly, your ute canopy will provide you with years of protection for your cargo tray and for your supplies. However, your ute canopy does require special care and handling, especially if you want to avoid premature wear and tear. Here are three steps you can take to protect your new aluminium ute canopy.

Start With a Powder Coat

If you plan to install an aluminium ute canopy over the cargo tray, you can expect it to be exposed to the elements on a regular basis. Because of that, you need to take steps to protect your canopy from day one. The best way to do that is to invest in powder coating. Powder coating provides lasting protection and durability for your ute cover. However, it also helps to maintain that brand-new appearance, year after year. As an added benefit, powder coating helps to alleviate colour fading that can be a big problem when vehicles are exposed to the sun on a regular basis.

Rinse Away the Residue

If you're going to be exposing your ute to extreme conditions, you'll need to provide some added protection after each excursion. This is especially true if you're going to be heading into the outback or down to the beach. Blowing sand can wreak havoc on your cover. After each excursion that involves blowing sand, be sure to rinse your canopy off with a garden hose. This will remove the sand, which will prevent damage.

Wash the Canopy Monthly

If you use your ute on a daily basis, your ute canopy is going to collect a lot of dirt and debris. Some of that debris includes bird droppings, tree sap, and road grime. Unfortunately, if that debris remains on your canopy for too long, it can cause serious problems. That's why you need to wash your cover at least once a month. To clean your canopy, you'll want to use warm, soapy water. You'll also want to avoid using any type of harsh chemicals on your canopy. For droppings or sap that won't wash off, you can use an automotive power washer to clean the area.
